Uses & Properties of ZnO Particles

Today, everything can be done quickly without much hesitation. Apart from all other significant discoveries, it’s time to look upon some tiny developments that have a substantial impact on our lives. The ZnO nanoparticles are a great invention as it affects the human race immensely. 

Let us look upon some of the properties of ZnO nanoparticles. 

The structural formula of zinc oxide is ZnO, and it is a Wurtzite crystal. It is generally solid and is an odorless white powder. The molecular weight of ZnO is 81.38 g/mol. It is approximately 99.0% pure zinc oxide for nanomaterials, even in the dossier. It has a density of 5600 kg per meter cube. The melting point of ZnO is 1975 degrees Celsius, and the boiling point is 2360 degrees Celsius. The content composition of zinc and oxygen in ZnO is 80.34% and 19.6%, respectively. 

How are ZnO particles special?

Zinc oxide is a multifunctional material because of its unique chemical and physical properties. To be specific, its highly stable chemical, the radiation absorption range is broad and has a high photostability. Various methods can synthesize ZnO nanoparticles. There are many ZnO nanoparticle utilizations, if we control different properties such as shape, size, size, crystal structure, surface state, dispensability, and organization onto the support. 

Use of ZnO nanoparticle

All properties of ZnO nanoparticles lead to the creation of various methods for producing the compound according to our needs.

ZnO is an inorganic compound. Commercial products are made in the high-temperature oxidation process of metallic zinc and other zinc ores. The use of ZnO nanoparticles is enormous and vastly acknowledged by different industries. The industries that use ZnO nanoparticles are the food industry, ceramics, medicine, cosmetics, rubber, and pigments. Speaking of cosmetics, it absorbs ultraviolet rays easily, so they are used in sunscreens to protect your skin from these harmful radiations.

Production of ZnO nanoparticle

In this method, we synthesized the ZnO nanoparticle by a simple method. ZnO nanoparticles are synthesized by the direct method of precipitation with the help of KOH and zinc nitrate as antecedents. Now, if we look at the synthesis process here, the water solution (0.2M) of the element, zinc nitrate (Zn(NO3)2.6H2O), and the solution (0.4M) of precursor that is KOH were prepared with the deionized water, respectively. 

 

After that, at room temperature, the KOH solution is added to the zinc nitrate solution and stirred properly. After that, it results in the form of white suspension. Then, to separate the liquid from the solid, which in 20 minutes rotates at 5000rpm,  is cleaned in washed distilled water thrice, and then finally cleaned with alcohol. Then the product which is obtained was calcined in the natural air for three hours.

After looking at the properties, production process, and its uses, we conclude that the ZnO nanoparticles are a great discovery for humankind. Not just in the scientific sector but many other commercial and manufacturing sectors as well. After studying its properties, we have also acquired various applications of the particles obtained by the different synthesis processes.
