As much as you love vaping, you need to take care of the device and e-juices as well. There are many customers who ask if there’s any advice on how to store the e-liquid bottles. Although bottles are leak proof, so chances of spillage are none, there are some ways to store it to increase the shelf life.
1. Light and Air Exposure:
The reason you’re advised to avoid light and air comes down to the effect of UV light and oxygen on nicotine. The oxygen reacts with the nicotine to produce cotinine (this “oxidation” process involves the loss of two hydrogen atoms and the gain of one oxygen atom) and the UV light helps this process along by providing energy in a similar fashion (but not in exactly the same way) as heat does. The more the reaction occurs, the less nicotine will be left in your juice, but in most cases the effect won’t be noticeable – unless you’re really careless in your storage.
The issue with oxygen can’t be completely avoided, because some will be dissolved in your juice even if you have a full bottle with no “headspace” above it, but the effect will be minimal as long as you keep it away from light.
2. Keep the E-Liquid Upright:
People look more confident and appealing when they stand up straight, and so will your e-cig! Storing an e-cigarette by placing it on its side or upside down could cause the device to leak, and that will deplete your e-liquid. Furthermore, this will also make it easier for dust and dirt to get inside the e-cig. Keeping your e-liquid upright will negate this risk and help your device stay nice and clean. You can always use Tornado Pro E- Liquid as it comes in leak proof bottles.
3. Glass vs Plastic:
If you’re going to be storing e-juices at all, make sure you’re using higher grade plastics—or even better—glass. The lower the grade of plastic the more permeable it is meaning more exposure to outside air and more flavor loss. Plastics can also interact with chemicals in your e-juice affecting the flavor. Glass is less permeable than even the highest grade plastics which makes it superior to any other bottle for the storage of e-juice.
4. Sealing and Cooling Places:
The best way to keep your e-liquids safe is to store them in a cool, dark place. Ideally, you have a cabinet or other location where they can be out of direct sunlight and away from any kind of heat source. You should also make sure that you take out your e-liquids and gently shake them for a few minutes each week so that the ingredients stay well mixed.
Some people prefer keeping their stock of e-liquids in the refrigerator or in the deep freezer. Just like any food left in the cold atmosphere can remain fresh for a longer time, e-liquids also remain intact for over a year. In fact, the e-liquids do not freeze which is one plus point. Cool places are the friendliest spots to store e-liquids.
